Wraparound extension and garden makeover

Overview
This project was about unlocking more from the space already there. By reworking an underused double-depth garage, building a new first-floor bedroom suite above, and reshaping the rear garden, the scheme added practical family space and a much stronger connection to outdoor living, all without heavily disrupting the main house.
What was delivered
The existing garage was partially converted to create a more useful balance between storage and living space. The front section was retained for secure storage and fitted with an insulated electric garage door, while the rear section was transformed into a flexible family room used as a kids’ room and chill-out area.
Above the garage, a new first-floor addition created a master bedroom with en suite shower room. The works also included an upgraded staircase and a pressurised hot water system to support the new layout. This gave the property valuable additional accommodation without the need for a major extension into the main body of the house.
To the rear, the garden was upgraded to form a more complete outdoor living area. A new patio extended directly from the garden doors, leading to a gazebo structure with space for a barbecue area, spa pool and lounge seating.

Why this project worked well
One of the key advantages on this scheme was the quality of the original garage structure. Because it had been built to a good standard, we were able to make use of the existing footings, giving the project a more efficient structural route and reducing unnecessary disruption.
Just as importantly, the works were largely contained around the garage and external areas. The kitchen and main living spaces remained functional through the core stages of the build, helping the project progress with less impact on day-to-day family life.
Outcome
The completed project turned a largely underused part of the property into a combination of practical storage, family living space and a new principal bedroom suite above. Together with the upgraded rear garden, the result was a well-balanced home improvement that added both function and enjoyment without the upheaval of a more invasive extension.
